Experiments in Korean Natural Farming – Water Soluble Calcium Phosphate

This is the first in a series of posts describing our learning process and how the ingredients for Korean Natural Farming Solutions can be made.

Here is a Garden Group member’s description of the calcium phosphate solution process.

KNF Calcium Phosphate, water soluble I carbonized heavy bones, bird bones are not suitable. I made soup from boiling ham bones… until all but bones left. Clean bones free from tendons, meat, fat, marrow. I have a can that I saved, to use as a simple Retort. (To isolate the bones in a container, To allow gases generated by extreme heat, To escape from a loosely fitted lid.) The Organic residue and fat in the bones turns into a gas that escapes from around the edge of the lid. The gas burns .., but the lid prevents oxygen from entering the can. I placed the can in a bed of coals in my wood stove. A barbecue grill or a campfire would be great… generates some smoke. Even after the flames went out. The bones are fully Carbon when the flames go out. Do not allow the bones to burn. They will burn to ash just as wood does.  If they are grey or white with ash on the outside, they have gone too far and have burned away the minerals that you want. They will be grey in the center also.  After cooling, the bones should readily break in your hands… like charcoal.

  • There should be no other colors in the breaks… just blackened all the way through.
  • Break them up in pieces and put one part charred  bone to 10 parts Vinegar.
  • By weight, 7 : 1 ratio
  • Stirring daily for 10 days or so… extract liquid and put the bone coal in the garden or compost.
  • Dilute 1:1000 with water in typical use.

For Flowering, growing roots, and supporting the structure of the plants.
